Thank you to everyone who joined us on Earth Day and helped to make it such a wonderful evening. About 250 people made it out to the courtyard of Creative Space where they were well taken care of by Kaiba and Kuluska. The Lions of Puxi, put on a fantastic show, and in between there were plenty of diversions. ENO was running a graffiti competition to design their next Neti, the environmental yeti . Sweet Ever After, our favorite sweets maker, helped us record our guests sharing what green means to them for our volunteer website and offered their delicious cupcakes in exchange. DesignLi3 provided the comforting built environment of our exquisitely designed green office and newly-opened green rooftop. China Bridge International provided their screen for displaying visuals for the event and Keen donated footwear and bags made from reused materials.
The police were attracted by all of our green sounds, but when they found out the reason for it, they fully supported us and allowed us to continue. Thank Gaia! After all of that excitement, it was wonderful to be taken care of by naked Retreats with their chill-out area up on the green rooftop.
We were especially pleased by the turnout of local university students, including four volunteers from Fudan University’s CODE social entrepreneur group and forty students from the Shanghai Institute of Visual Art (SIVA). The SIVA students exhibited some truly arresting environmental awareness posters that they had created as part of a project organized by Jane Zhao of altdesign and Greennovate. The posters will be used in companies and schools that Greennovate works with to provide visual reminders of environmental messages. The project has been so successful that we have been encouraged to organize more such competitions and exhibitions among local students and designers in the future. Watch this space.
